LWE Interviews Chris Liebing

An institution in global techno, Chris Liebing has delivered his sinewy brand of terse, functional and pummeling techno to the furthest outposts of the globe for nearly 20 years. Liebing is one of a rare breed: a DJ who manages to entertain on the world’s very biggest stages and festivals without diluting his underground essence. Techno through and through, anyone who has seen him play will testify that he also brings a refreshing physicality of presence to the decks — a confidence in performance that comes from years of hard graft and unrelenting service. His CLR imprint celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010 and is followed by CLRX — a new label to showcase a more 80s/industrial inflected sound. In anticipation of Oktave’s August 31st party, when he’ll headlining Smart Bar Chicago, Little White Earbuds caught up with Chris via e-mail to get the scoop on his plans.

Red Bull Music Academy New York Moved To 2013

We unfortunately announce that the upcoming New York edition of the Red Bull Music Academy will be postponed until spring 2013. Due to delays at the venue, we are not able to complete the build-out in time for the original opening date of September 30 without compromising on the quality of the facilities that are currently being built in Manhattan to house the Academy and our future projects in NYC.

INTERVIEW: SEAN MILLER (Supernature, Viva Music, Mobilee)

We caught up with Sean for a short interview before his arrival to the Rainforest Territory.

1) Tell us a little about your beginnings. What got you into electronic music?
I was a drummer from an early age. I began playing the drums when I was 8 years old. My father put me into the Royal Conservatory of Music. I was in and out of rock bands throughout junior high and high school. I was always into music. While at high school in the early 90’s I was first introduced to electronic music. I went to some rave parties and basically got hooked. From my earliest memory it was a Sasha and Digweed mix that got me locked in.

2) Describe how was the scene when you started to Dj.
It was all warehouse parties. When I started it was all a new experience for me. I didn’t know any Dj’s or even what the music was called never mind any artists. It was all very new. All I knew was that it was something I had never experienced before and I knew it was the future for dance music. I wanted to know everything I could about it. It was amazing back then and I knew this was my calling.
